In the West we are continually bombarded with images of what we need to live perfect lives and become perfect people. Our world force-feeds us consumerism from birth until death with a shout of “more is not just better but necessary to make us complete”.
How refreshing then are these words:
“Try to live simply. A simple lifestyle freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be persuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford. Do you keep yourself informed about the effects your style of living is having on the global economy and environment?” (Quaker faith & practice – The Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Britain))
Try it out today – stop and think about how you can make one or two small changes towards living simply and don’t forget to let me know.
